| Over a five year period, I decided to explore the underground slot canyons of the American Southwest. There are literally thousands of canyons in this area; most require a steep descent through rock strata to reach the bottom. I documented these vertical wall structures which can be hundreds of feet tall but only a few wide. Most slot canyons are remote, hidden and difficult to reach and explore, but this only adds to their appeal. ** The series started in 1989 and consists of well over 60 black and white images.
