The French government in 1851 sponsored the first documentary photography project to take place in France entitled 'Mission héliographique.' The French 'Commission des Monuments Historique' was behind this endeavour and employed photographers to document a series of ancient monuments. The government intended to use these pictures later to assist with the restoration of these buildings, and form an artistic archive of the nation.
In my photographic response to France, I'm hoping to continue in the same vein as 'Mission héliographique.' I've always been fascinated in historic and contemporary architecture and envision my work as being part of a larger documentary project.
** The series started in 1986 and consists of over 1000 black and white images. Print size 11x14 inches.
